ABOUT THE PLANT

The Plant is an adaptive reuse landmark in Jackson’s historic Fondren Warehouse District. Once an abandoned industrial facility, it now operates as a design studio, landscape architecture campus, and living laboratory for experimenting with plants, materials, and creative ideas. Beyond its daily role as a creative campus, The Plant selectively hosts gatherings centered around design, culture, and community.

From abandoned pipe

plant to creative campus

Built in the 1960s as a pipe distribution plant, this industrial structure was reclaimed and transformed through a process rooted in adaptive reuse and biophilic design. What was once a decaying warehouse is now a botanical campus - an evolving experiment in how forgotten spaces can become places of connection and creativity.

Industrial bones, living systems

The Plant’s design blends preserved industrial architecture with a constantly evolving botanical landscape. Seasonal plantings, experimental gardens, and curated interiors create dynamic backdrops that change with time, offering a raw yet refined setting for creation, reflection, and gathering.

About the Owners

The Plant is led by Travis and Ansley Crabtree, whose combined backgrounds in landscape architecture, urban planning, photography, and design shape every detail of the campus. Their work centers on reconnecting people with nature in places where it has often been erased by industry.

Together, they transformed this former pipe plant into a botanical campus, part design studio, part living laboratory, demonstrating how adaptive reuse and biophilic design can inspire creativity and connection.
