Biophilic Design: Bringing Nature Indoors
Biophilia is the idea that we as humans are innately attracted to and benefit from spending time in nature. The “biophilia effect” is the proven positive impact of connecting with nature, including improved mental health and cognition, enhanced mood, and increased social engagement. These benefits are a special feature of The Plant Venue, featuring a blend of native exterior landscaping and tropical interior plantscapes. In this blog, you can find out more about the indoor plants that boost your mood, purify the air, and create a positive environment for everyone who interacts with the venue.
The venue has lots of preserved industrial features like the historic concrete beams and the unique catering bar created by adapting two shipping containers into bar for food and beverage service during events. To balance the industrial elements, we added in a generous amount of tropical plants like Monstera deliciosa and multiple types of philodendron. Monstera plants are known for their resilience and ability to thrive in a variety of conditions, making them a symbol of sustainability and longevity. These green giants create a gorgeous overhead plantscape that will continue growing taller each year thanks to the bright, indirect lighting in The Atrium.
Another guest favorite is the unique green wall backdrop situated on the back side of the shipping container bar, where beautiful, lush layers of pothos elegantly drape down and meet the hearty, resilient snake plants that thrive in the planter box below. Pothos is widely considered one of the best indoor plants for purifying the air, as it effectively removes common toxins like formaldehyde, xylene, and benzene, contributing to an overall healthier environment. Among our common “floor plants,” we also feature corn plants and snake plants, both of which are well-known for their ability to grow in various lighting conditions, allowing them to be conveniently moved around the venue as needed.
Bringing more plant life inside is not only proven to enhance the human experience, but it also contributes to creating a generally more vibrant and welcoming environment. NASA even recommends incorporating “at least one plant per 100 square feet” into indoor spaces and suggests using larger, leafier plants for the best air purification results. In addition to being scientifically beneficial for mental health and well-being, plants also bring an element of beauty and life to our interior spaces, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal and transforming any event into a naturally inviting occasion.
The Plant Venue is a unique destination that offers many layers of thoughtfully curated design features. Each aspect of the venue has been carefully considered to create a harmonious and inviting atmosphere enhancing the experience for all visitors.
